Please note the following adjustments have been made to the 2018-2019 school calendar. Families and staff are asked to plan accordingly.
Mr. Mark Dorsey has been approved as principal of Kecoughtan High School by the School Board.
Mr. Dorsey is coming to Hampton from West Point, Virginia where he has served as the principal at West Point High School since 1999. Under his leadership, West Point High School was named a United States Department of Education Blue Ribbon School in 2012-2013, earned the Virginia Board of Education’s Award for Educational Excellence for the past seven years (2011-2018) as well as 2009, and earned the Governor’s Award for Educational Excellence in 2010. Also, the school received the Virginia High School League (VHSL) Sportsmanship Award 13 times since 1999.
He was named the 2015 Virginia Association of Secondary School Principals Outstanding High School Principal of Virginia and was Virginia’s nominee for National Principal of the Year. He has also been recognized by Governor Warner for the Early Scholars Program and received the VFW Service to the Community Award and Technology, Making it Happen Award. He served on the VHSL executive committee from 2011 to 2016 and was the executive committee chairman during the 2014 school year. Prior to Dorsey’s principalship, he served as an assistant principal, athletic director, teacher, and coach in West Point, as well as a teacher in Lincoln County Schools in West Virginia.
He earned his bachelor’s degree from Glenville State College, his master’s from Marshall University and his principal endorsement from Virginia Commonwealth University.
Please join me in welcoming Mr. Dorsey to the KHS Warrior family. Mr. Tim Cason will serve in an interim capacity as Mr. Dorsey completes his transition from West Point.
