KHS BayPort Credit Union
sponsors Mr. Hall ihall@hampton.k12.va.us and Ms. Skipper cskipper@hampton.k12.va.us
The Warrior Branch, Kecoughtan’s Student-Run Credit Union (SRCU) is open for business and helps acclimate teens with establishing a healthy banking relationship. It also helps students learn leadership and professionalism. Selected student tellers are trained by credit union staff to operate the branch during lunch periods while helping their classmates make withdrawals and learn the basics of personal finance.
This partnership between KHS and BayPort Credit Union allows students and staff to learn more about personal finance with convenient on-campus access to their account.
Location & Hours
The Warrior Branch is located in the school store and is open on regular school days during lunch. Hours may change during the school year and will be posted at the branch entrance. Warrior Branch members may also visit any BayPort location during normal business hours for full account access.
Using the Branch
Students and staff can open accounts and make deposits and limited withdrawals at the Warrior Branch. The student tellers will be available for all transactions, and the faculty liaisons are also available for additional questions and to ensure accuracy and confidentiality.
Note: Members must have access to BayPort’s Online Banking in order to conduct transactions at the Warrior Branch.
Students are encouraged to open savings accounts to save for such events as holiday gift-giving, high school ring orders and even prom activities. Additionally, KHS students may open a Teen Rewards Checking account with a MasterCard® Debit Card (students under 18 require parent/guardian to be joint on the account).
Opening an Account
We strongly encourage parents/guardians to be involved in the credit union experience. To open an account, a student needs proof of identification and their social security number. If the student is under 18, proof of the parent's identification, parent's social security number and parent's signature is required. If the student is already a member of BayPort Credit Union, it is not necessary to open another account, but they must complete proper paperwork to access their account through the Warrior Branch.
Students and parents/guardians can monitor their BayPort accounts through eStatements or by using BayPort’s online banking at bayportcu.org.
As an added bonus, senior student members and student tellers are eligible to apply for a Warrior Branch SRCU Scholarship in the amount of $500.
